The derby will run for one day from FIRST LIGHT (far side of lake visible from Black Sands Resort) until check in at 3:00PM on March 28th, 2026.  

ALL TEAMS MUST PICK UP THEIR INFO PACKET (Permits, Rule book, Weigh in Card) AT  BLACK SANDS RESORT FRIDAY 3/27/2026 BETWEEN 5 AND 10 PM OR SATURDAY MORNING  3/28/2026 AT THE BLACK SANDS STORE 

All boats/teams must be at the check in area located on the lawn at BLACK SANDS RESORT by 3:00 pm, even if waiting to be weighed/measured. Each team will present the day’s catch and their weigh in card to be weighed/measured BY A DERBY OFFICIAL. The official will note the total weight of the crappie bag, and length of sub category fish presented and report such to the score keeper.  

$5000 TO WIN PRIZE WILL BE AWARDED TO THE HEAVIEST BAG OF 20 CRAPPIE!  

$2500 RUNNER UP TO THE SECOND HEAVIEST BAG  

$1000 SECOND RUNNER UP TO THE THIRD HEAVIEST BAG  

THE LEADING THREE BAGS WILL BE IMPOUNDED AT WEIGHING PENDING EITHER A HEAVIER  BAG OR A FINAL WEIGHT AND INTERNAL VERIFICATION OF FISH.   

Verification may be done by manual or electronic methods. 

 FISH WILL BE RANDOMLY SCREENED FOR ADDED WEIGHT! DO NOT TRY IT! 

In the event of a tie, each team will present ten (10) fish to be laid end to end for a total length to determine a winner. Should the tie remain, another fish will be added one at a time until such time as there is a clear winner or only two teams tied.  As a final tie breaker, if needed, the best 3 out of 5 rock paper scissors duel will determine   the winner.  

Ties in length only categories will be settled by a best 3 out of 5 rock paper scissors duel, the winner will be awarded the higher prize. 

Secondary categories will be scored by length only. They will be measured on a Hagen’s “hawg traugh” bump board measuring device by a DERBY OFFICIAL at designated station.  

Secondary categories include:  Largest Crappie  Largest Perch  Largest Trout (all Salmonoids)  Largest Bluegill  Largest Catfish  Largest Non-game fish (carp, sucker, squaw etc)  Smallest Fish (from above species)  

Other categories / payouts may be added by promoter.  Awards ceremony will be held on the lawn at Black Sands Resort at 6 PM on   the day of the derby. 

Team size is limited to four (4) persons  EVENT IS RAIN OR SHINE, ALL PAID ENTRIES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

A team may consist of only one boat.  All persons on boat must be registered on the team entry form.  NO NON-FISHER RIDERS (except small children accompanied by  a registered parent/guardian)  

The number of anglers listed on the entry form shall be considered official.  Multiple shore (up to 4) fishers fishing in a group may also participate as a team.  All fishers must be declared on entry form.  

Kayak/Float tube fishers will be considered individual anglers.  

All fish must be caught on C.J. Strike reservoir within the following boundaries: the Main Body,  Snake arm (downstream from Loveridge Bridge), Bruneau arm (not including the Bruneau river).  

Are always expected from each entrant and participant. Any infractions of these fundamental sporting principals may be deemed cause for disqualification.  

For safety/traffic reasons “The Narrows” should be considered a no wake/minimal wake zone. 

All state and federal laws apply.  

The rules of this Derby shall be interpreted or amended solely by derby officials. Their decisions will be considered final in all matters. 

All entrants shall recognize that their signature on a Derby registration form is a waiver  of liability, absolving The Crappie Classic and/or its partners of any and all damages or  liability arising from the contest by entering in or otherwise participating in the Derby.  

This Waiver of Liability is also considered as approval of and permission for use of any  likeness and photos in promotional opportunities by The Crappie Classic and/or its  partners.  

 The Official Derby Rules and the Official Derby Entry Form shall be considered one  document and by entering the event you, and your team, are agreeing to honor and abide by all Official Derby Rules as outlined above.
